  • Dr. Charles Plummer is the most recent addition to the Northern Kentucky University music faculty.  He earned a Bachelor of Music in music performance from Illinois State University and an Master of Music in trombone performance from Florida State University.  He graduated from the University of Cincinnati College-Conservatory of Music with a Doctor of Musical Arts. in trombone performance and a cognate in jazz studies.  His training has included trombone studies with Stephen Parsons, John Drew, David Vining, and Cristian Ganicenko, as well as jazz piano studies with Phil DeGreg and composition/arranging with Paul Piller.

  • In addition to teaching at Florida State University and the University of Cincinnati, Dr. Plummer has taught privately in seven states including Missouri, Illinois, Florida, Georgia, Indiana, Ohio, and Kentucky.  He has performed recitals at several universities within the U.S. and abroad including masterclasses at the Carlos Valderrama Conservatory as guest artist with the Orchesta Sinfonica de Trujillo (Trujillo, Peru). 

  • As a versatile performer of many different genres, Dr. Plummer has performed at the Midwest Band and Orchestra Clinic in Chicago, IL, the Music Educator's National Conference in Washington, D.C., and the International Trombone Festivals in Champaign, IL and Boulder, CO.  He has performed with the Peoria Opera (IL), the Tallahassee Ballet (FL), the West Palm Beach Symphony Orchestra and Opera (FL), the Richmond Symphony (IN), the Walt Disney All-American College Band in Orlando, FL (principal trombone/piano) and the Blue Wisp Big Band in Cincinnati.  In 1997, he was the recipient of the Outstanding Soloist Award at the Mobile Jazz Festival (Mobile, AL) and was a finalist in 2002 for the ASCAP Foundation's Young Jazz Composer Award (New York, NY).  Dr. Plummer's latest composition, He Has Called Me Friend, was premiered on October 14, 2007 by the Tri-County Baptist Church Orchestra and Choir in West Chester, Ohio with him conducting.
