Music Education
The Music Education Program at Northern Kentucky University prepares students for the challenges and rewards of teaching music as a career. Future music educators who complete the requirements of the degree receive state certification and licensing for teaching music in public and private schools in Kentucky and Ohio. The programs are offered for students seeking certification: choral emphasis, choral/piano emphasis, and instrumental concentration each of which prepares students to receive certification to teach music in the public school system.
To graduate and receive certification in music education, a student must demonstrate fluency on one or more instruments, skill in conducting, perform a final recital, and successfully complete the piano profiency requirements set forth by the department. Students must also demonstrate a commitment to the teaching profession and a strong ability to motivate and inspire young musicians. Graduates from NKU Music Education Programs currently occupy prominent teaching positions throughout the region and across the country.
